Beetle in colour

Well I thought it was about time I got some paint on the Beetle model. With all the main modelling complete I could wait! These are the basic renders with an HDRI lighting map and a single directional light. The paint is based on an original VW colour called Savannah beige which I think suits the shape well. There are still a few more details and trim items to add, then i'll unwrap the model to add dirt and rust for a more authentic Herbie render pass.

Merry Christmas Little Bear

Happy Christmas Little Bear from oliver brown on Vimeo.
Here's the finished animation. I added in my Little Bear rig from earlier in the year. Little Bear's wooly hat has a bobble made using a polygon sphere with a displacement map applied.
I spent a lot of time wrangling the lighting of the render till I was happy with it.
The moving camera is constrained to a motion path curving around the building, but its aim fixed on the building.

Warhammer 40k Space Marine Bolter

Another childhood inspired model, this time from the Warhammer 40k universe. Great fun modelling, particularly the pistol grip and the rifle grip. Trying out and Ambient Occlusion node on a lambert material for a work in progress render. Learnt alot on this one!

Drink yer grog, Matey!

My sons and I were really inspired by the fantastic Jonny Duddle Pirate books. Heres a Pewter tankard modelled after one used in the book. I used a great feature which allows you to import shapes drawn in Photoshop into Maya. The skull emblem was then extruded and wrapped around the tankard using a Bend modifier
