Beetle in colour

Well I thought it was about time I got some paint on the Beetle model. With all the main modelling complete I could wait! These are the basic renders with an HDRI lighting map and a single directional light. The paint is based on an original VW colour called Savannah beige which I think suits the shape well. There are still a few more details and trim items to add, then i'll unwrap the model to add dirt and rust for a more authentic Herbie render pass.

Bus now in colour

With just a few more tweaks to go, I couldn't resist adding a bit of colour to the bus. Its a based on the classic VW colour scheme of Palm Green / Sand Green.
Final modelling touches included exposed cargo door hinges, rear light clusters and number plates and mirrors. So onwards to texture, light and render!

Brighton Breeze

A bracing October dawn saw nearly 1000 Volkswagen vans of all ages, shiny or otherwise, converge on Brighton's Madeira Drive. It was an awesome sight, Vdubs as far as the eye could see, with the cold grey sea as a foreboding backdrop.

Browsing the Samba website reminded me of a Beetle illustration I did last year. Don't think i've put it up on here before.
